High Voltage Certification Training

IMI Training

  • AC Training Academy will provide various curriculums for different Levels (1-4) of training and is the first IMI (Institute of the Motor Industry) training provider in the US. Successful (practical and theoretical Exam) participants will receive an International Qualification Certificate and will be part of IMI’s professional Register Database. 
  • All Level 1-3 certification Training courses are developed to be mobile and can be executed at the customer location. AC Training Academy sees a lot of Value when technician learn in their environment and by learning at the vehicles there servicing.

IMI Level 3 Certification Training Course

AC Training Academy will offer to achieve the High Voltage Level 3 Certification is to offer a blended learning Strategy out of online live Webinar and 2 days in person training. The advantage of this approach is that the in-Person Training can be conducted during a weekend what helps with no downtime for technicians and shop owners. Here the recommended outline:

  • Online Live Webinar Part 1: Electrical Basic Engineering
    • Understand parallel and series electrical circuits.
    • Understand the function of resistors, diodes, and capacitors in HV systems.
    • Explain Ohm’s law.
  • Online Live Webinar Part 2: High Voltage Safety
    • Explain the High Voltage Safety systems in a Hybrid/EV
    • Understand the use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).
    • Explain High Voltage hazards and risks.
  • Online Live Webinar Part 3: High Voltage System understanding, Disconnecting procedure and Diagnostics.
    • Describe the High Voltage system.
    • Understand the function of High Voltage system components such as HV Battery, Inverter, Electric Motor, Charger, DC/DC Converter, and all auxiliary systems.
    • Explain Potential Equalization (bonding).
    • Explain the Vehicle Intake process and all needed safety measures.
    • Describe the determination of the state of the HV Battery.
    • Describe how to perform a four-wire measurement method.
    • Describe how to perform an Insulation test
    • Understand diagnostic methods on an electrical vehicle

  • 2 Days in-Person High Voltage Certification Training 
    • Explain parallel and series electrical circuits
    • Explain the function of resistors, diodes, and capacitors in HV systems
    • Explain Ohm’s law
    • Describe the operation of transformers and rectifiers
    • Explain the function of relays and transistors
    • Explain the Vehicle Intake process and all needed safety measures.
    • Describe the determination of the state of the HV Battery.
    • Perform a four-wire measurement method.
    • Perform an Insulation test.
    • Explain diagnostic methods on an electrical vehicle. 
    • Perform the manufacturer disconnecting procedure and verify zero potential at an Electrical Vehicle
  • High Voltage Theoretical and Practical Exam
    • 45 minutes theoretical Exam (multiple choice)
    • 30 minutes practical exam demonstrating and rated on the following tasks:
      • Perform a certified disconnecting procedure.
      • Diagnose the High Voltage system.
      • Bonding and insulation faults must be found.

IMI Level 4 Certification Training Course

In addition, a Level 4 certification Training will be offered for Automotive professional which would like to be educated in working under live conditions what will enable the repair technician to service and repair for example High Voltage Batteries. This Training will be conducted at AC Training Academy facility in Ohio. Only students what have a Level 3 certification are eligible to participate in this course. In this course special Training equipment will be used and in this two day in person Training the following learning objectives will be taught:

  • Explain how to disconnect a live vehicle and bring it in a safe state.
  • Explain the safe High Voltage Battery removal process
  • Explain how to personal protect when working under live conditions
  • Describe the process how to remove and replace Battery modules
  • Explain how to perform insulation resistant testing in open Batteries
  • Explain how to use a two-pole voltage tester at Battery modules
  • Perform Battery enclosure and coolant testing
  • Explain diagnostic methods on live electric vehicles 
  • Perform the replacement of High voltage Battery contractors.
  • Explain how to balance high Voltage Battery cells 
  • Describe a safe diagnostic strategy when system is in live state.

5 Day High Voltage Certification Training

AC Training Academy is delivering an Automotive High Voltage Certification Training under the guideline of the European regulation ECE-R-100 and the German Training curriculum DGUV 209-093.

The most extensive education offered by AC Training Academy is a 5 day in-person training event built under the German guidelines in DGUV 209-093, and is developed for 12 students and has the following timetable and learning objectives:

  • Day 1:  9AM – 4PM Basic Electrical Engineering 
    • Understand parallel and series electrical circuits.
    • Understand the function of resistors, diodes, and capacitors in HV systems.
    • Explain Ohm’s law.
    • Describe the operation of transformers and rectifiers.
    • Explain the function of relays and transistors.
  • Day 2:  8AM – 4PM High Voltage Safety in Collision
    • Understand the use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).
    • Explain High Voltage hazards and risks.
    • Describe the High Voltage system.
    • Understand the function of High Voltage system components such as HV Battery, Inverter, Electric Motor, Charger, DC/DC Converter, and all auxiliary systems.
    • Explain Potential Equalization (bonding).
    • Explain the Vehicle Intake process and all needed safety measures.
    • Describe the determination of the state of the HV Battery.
  • Day 3:  8AM – 4PM High Voltage Certified Disconnecting Procedure
    • Understand all steps to safely disconnect a high Voltage system.
    • Explain the verification of zero potential.
    • Explain passive and active discharge.
    • Describe all Manufacture disconnect procedures such as High Voltage Battery or Low Voltage service disconnect.
  • Day 4:  8AM – 4PM High Voltage Service and Diagnostics
    • Describe how to perform a four-wire measurement method.
    • Describe how to perform an Insulation test.
    • Understand diagnostic methods on an electrical vehicle.
    • Explain the use of a manufacturer diagnostic tool.
    • Describe the manufacturer disconnecting procedure and verify zero potential at an Electrical Vehicle.
    • Perform a theoretical Exam (Multiple-Choice).
  • Day 5: 8AM – 4PM High Voltage Practical Exam
    • One-hour practical exam demonstrating the following tasks:
    • Perform a certified disconnecting procedure.
    • Diagnose the High Voltage system.
    • Bonding and insulation faults must be found.
